NATIONAL BLACK THEATRE FESTIVAL
begins on July 30 and will run through August
4. The downtown will be alive with
thousands
of visitors, celebrities, and great

THE
DOWNTOWN NORTH HISTORIC DISTRICT,
which takes in all of the Arts District, was
approved for a historic marker by the
Historic
Resources Commission. The marker will soon be
installed at the southeast corner of Sixth and
Trade Street. This brings the total
number
of markers in Winston-Salem to 14.
DOWNTOWN
DEVELOPMENT
will be part of the program presented by DWSP
President, Jason Thiel, at the State of the
Economic
Development
Luncheon on August 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30
p.m. at the Embassy Suites Grand Pavilion
Ballroom. The meeting will be

by the Rotary Club, Twin City Quarter and the

DOWNTOWN PLAN
is set for a public hearing at City Council on
Monday, July 16. Contact

THE
CITY/COUNTY PLANNING BOARD
unanimously approved a rezoning request from
Brookstown Development Partners for the
proposed
5,500-seat ballpark to be located between
Business 40 and Peters Creek Parkway. Details
such as sound, lighting and parking
will
be worked out following the completion of
studies currently being conducted by consultants
and after further meetings between the
developer
and nearby neighborhoods. Final approval rests
with the City Council.
SOLUTIENCE,
an information technology and consulting
business has opened an office at 301 N. Main
Street in Winston Tower. The
company
is based in Greenville, South Carolina with an
additional office in Alabama. The move was
prompted by a desire to be close to
the
emerging market center for advanced technology,
health care, research and manufacturing.
COLLEGE
PARK AT THE GATEWAY
is underway with groundbreaking for six single
family homes, including the model. The project
will
eventually
have 150 single family homes and town homes. It
is located south of Old Salem near the N. C.
School of the Arts. For

KUDOS
TO THE CITY OF WINSTON-SALEM
for an aggressive campaign to remove illegal
signs. In downtown alone, approximately 50
such
signs have been taken down in recent weeks.
This effort will do much to ensure that the
center city is kept attractive and clean.
The
City will enforce a $50 fine for each sign that
is illegally posted in the right-of-way at
street intersections, along streets, and on
trees,
posts
and utility poles in the right-of-way.
ISP
SPORTS will host a celebration in
conjunction with its 15th anniversary
and upcoming corporate office and national
broadcast studio
relocation to
Trader’s Row. Billed as the ISP Homecoming—Celebrating
America’s Home for College Sports,
festivities will include a
downtown
parade of bands, cheerleaders and mascots and
special Thursday night Trade Street Block
