BAZAAR
is the name of the latest entertainment venue
coming to downtown. It will be upscale with a
strong Moroccan theme and will include a tapas
bar and nightclub for live music and dancing.
Bazaar will be located upstairs above the
Downtown Deli at 209 West Fourth Street between
Cherry and Trade. Plans call for an outdoor
balcony on the back side of the building and
seating for 250 patrons. A midsummer opening is
anticipated.
THE B STRING
is another new shop in the Arts District at 560
North Trade Street. Owned and operated by Mike
and Tammy Bennett, B String is a speciality
guitar shop selling vintage guitars such as
Gibson, Fender and Martin. Lessons, repairs,
buying, selling and trading of stringed
instruments are all part of the business. The
shop is open Tuesday – Friday from 11 a.m. to 6
p.m. On Gallery Hop nights and for Summer on
Trade on Saturdays this summer, B String will

CHRYSALIS GALLERY AND STUDIO is the
newest artists' space in the Arts District at
524 N. Liberty St (above the DADA Community
Center). Chrysalis focuses on the art of
utilizing recycled materials and transforming
them into art! "We will transform
recyclables into fabulous, functional, and
fashionable art ranging from jewelry to accent
lamps." Chrysalis will also be conducting
summer camps for young women, ages 10-15.

PIP PRINTING & DOCUMENT SERVICES
is under new ownership. The business, which has
been located at 235 Town Run Lane for 26 years,
has been purchased by Christian Lannie and will
continue servicing its clients with full-service
printing, copying and digital network

mailing, large-format and bindery services as
well as online ordering and customized

THE SALVATION ARMY
is celebrating its 100th anniversary
by creating an awareness campaign called “Keep
the Kettles Open.” The organization is looking
for 100 businesses to host one of the Salvation
Army kettles, such as those traditionally
utilized around the holidays, for two weeks this
summer beginning June 25. Young people at the
Boys and Girls Club will paint the kettles
creatively, and they will be placed inside
the businesses. It is not for the purpose of
collecting money, but simply to serve as a
metaphor for the message that the Salvation Army
helps those in need all year long. To host a

THE BUILDING HOUSING THE KOPPER KITCHEN
on Fifth Street has been sold to an out-of-state
developer. The restaurant will remain open,
along with two other businesses in the building.
There is still 1,400 s.f. for lease.
OUT OF OUR MINDS ANIMATION STUDIOS
has established a commercial division, Out of
Our Minds Visual Communications. It will
provide design, animation and video services to
corporate, advertising agencies and other
clients. Keith Hobgood, illustration director,
will head operations for the division based at
405 N. Cherry Street, Suite 200. The space was
previously used by the company’s illustration
team during production of the feature animation
film, The Magistical which will be
finished this year.
THE N. C. NANOMEDICINE INSTITUTE,
a project that could generate as many as 6,000
high-paying jobs over the next 10 years, is
seeking funding from the N. C. General
Assembly. A coordinated effort has been
launched by the Winston-Salem Chamber of
Commerce and 11 others chambers in the Triad to
secure $15 million for the institute which would
be located in the Piedmont Triad Research Park.
NC NanoMed would work with existing companies
that have products in need of testing and
approval through the Food and Drug
Administration before they can get to market.
EXPRESS GRAPHICS,
a sign and display company located at 533 N.
Spring Street, has opened a division to provide
design, printing and installation of vehicle
graphics. The new division,
myvanwrap.com, can produce single graphics
or complete vehicle wraps for cars, box trucks,
vans and entire fleets. The 20-year-old company
services businesses in a multi-state area. Call

PHASE ONE OF THE STROLLWAY EXTENSION
on the west side of Trade Street between Fifth
and Sixth streets is almost complete. Brick
pavers have been reinstalled in front of Traders
Row, decorative light poles have been
refurbished, and special areas for engraved
bricks that were sold by DADA have been
created. New street trees will be planted at
the appropriate time. Phase Two will call for
similar work from Fourth Street to Seventh.

received awards in the competition sponsored by
