Wolfies Now Open
Wolfies, a gourmet frozen custard store is now open at 420 West Fourth Street between Recreation Billiards and Hutch & Harris restaurant.  Magnolia Construction LLC was hired to up fit the spaceThe concept is built around premium frozen dessert products with several signature products sold under the Wolfies Gourmet Custard brand name. They will include Frozen Custard with fresh flavors, milkshakes, and sundaes. They will occupy 1300 square feet and seat 25 patrons. It is Wi-Fi accessible, thanks to the the free Fourth Street Wireless network. The shop will be open seven days a week. Hours: Sunday–Thursday, 11:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. or later. Friday–Saturday 11:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. or later. The telephone number is 245-2400.

 

BREW NERDS will open a second location on July 14, replacing Sin Coffee Bar at 305 West Fourth Street in the Chatham Building.  Owners DJ McKie and wife, Jennifer, currently own the Brew Nerds and Kernel Kustard on Hanes Mall Boulevard at the Shoppes on Little Creek.  Brew Nerds micro-roasts its coffee beans in small batches on site.  The shop will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays; and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

 

TOLIN MORRISON & ALTMAN is a newly formed law firm which has established its practice in Suite 802 on the eighth floor of Winston Tower.  Attorneys James W. Tolin, III, Alice Morrison and Kevin Altman will offer a general practice with concentration in criminal and domestic law.  Call 724-6990.

 

THE PIEDMONT TRIAD RESEARCH PARK plans to adopt environmentally friendly guidelines based on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, rating system for the park’s infrastructure and research centers.  “Green” buildings are constructed of materials that are renewable, do not harm the environment and use less energy than in conventional construction methods.  The guidelines will be used in future planning, construction and operations, such as placing new buildings to absorb more solar power.

 

THE YOGA GALLERY at 633 North Trade Street will be expanding into space formerly occupied by Young’s Vintage Home and Garden store.  The Yoga Gallery will merge its studio with the Arts of Yoga, currently located at 717 South Marshall Street, and will begin offering classes seven days a week.  A retail shop will be set up in the front of the downstairs space.  An opening date for the expanded studio is projected for the first of September.  Classes will continue as usual at both locations during the summer.

 

THE NEW LIFE CENTER of the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, will be officially dedicated at a ceremony on Tuesday, July 22, at 10 a.m.  The facility at 718 N. Trade Street will be equipped to offer instruction in budgeting, life skills, GED training, and computer skills classes to men in the program.  The Rescue Mission is in its 41st year of operation.

 

DOWNTOWN 101 will be held at the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership on Tuesday, July 22, from 8-11 a.m.  The free seminar is aimed at people who are interested in starting a business downtown or would like to know more about the downtown market.  Presenters include representatives from Forsyth Technical Community College Small Business Center, Fire Department, City Inspections, City Development Office, County Health Department, architects, commercial realtors and contractors.  To register call 354-1500 or e-mail admin@dwsp.org

 

THE DOWNTOWN BIKE PATROL new personnel will be honored at a reception at the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership beginning on Tuesday, July 22.  Four new officers have joined the patrol, and the public is invited to meet them and welcome them to the downtown community.  Contact Glenda Keels at 354-1500 for more information.

 

LEONARD RYDEN BURR has become the first major real estate firm in Winston-Salem to offer information on home listings via text messaging.  No special cell phone is needed since most phones produced in the past few years have text messaging capability.  The needed information is provided on smaller signs beside the “For Sale” signs of properties that are part of the program.
