DOWNTOWN 101, sponsored by The Baldwin Companies, will be held on Tuesday, March 25, at 8 a.m. in the offices of the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership.  The free, 3-hour information seminar is for anyone who is thinking about starting a new business or would like to know more about the downtown market.  For more information or to register, call (336) 354-1500 or e-mail admin@dwsp.org.

CAFFÉ PRADA IS NOW OPEN at the corner of Fourth and Broad Streets.  They will be serving custom made gelato, sandwiches from Winston's Eatery, and featuring fine coffee & espresso from Krankies Coffee.  Check out their website for more info and menu items.

A STUDY OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY, its location and services provided by the Forsyth County Public Library system is being done this spring as part of a HUD grant.  The Library wants the study to include what YOU think.  Focus groups and meetings will be held March 10-12 at the Central Library and on March 11 at the Reynolda Manor Branch.  Findings will be presented to County Officials.  Special focus groups for people working or living downtown are scheduled for Monday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 11.  Both will begin with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and should conclude by 9 a.m.  For further information, call 703-3013.  Your input is very important!

ISP SPORTS AND THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME, have approved a new, 10-year business partnership in which ISP will become the new exclusive national rights-holder for Notre Dame football radio broadcasts.  The Notre Dame-ISP relationship will begin with the 2008 season and extend through the 2017 season -- with ISP managing, producing and syndicating Notre Dame’s national football radio network.  ISP, the largest collegiate-only sports marketing firm in the country, represents athletics marketing and multi-media rights for more than 40 Division I-A universities, five major conferences (including two Bowl Championship Series conferences, the BIG EAST Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference) and two postseason football bowl games.  ISP takes over for Westwood One, which had held Irish football radio rights since 1968, originally as the Mutual Broadcasting Company.

THE 10TH ANNUAL RIVERRUN FILM FESTIVAL will take place April 23-28, 2008, one of the country’s fastest-growing regional film festivals, unveiled a sneak preview of some of the films in the program lineup for 2008. YOUNG’S VINTAGE HOME & GARDEN located at 633 North Trade Street has reopened after being temporarily closed for refurbishing and restocking.  The store is celebrating its fifth year in the Downtown Arts District where it has become known for a wide selection of vintage furnishings for both indoors and outside and a unique mix of accessories and gifts.  Visit www.youngsvintagehome.com.

THE BAYBERRY BISTRO which is located at the Hawthorne Inn & Conference Center is just completed a complete renovation and has reopened for business.  They are now serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Design work was done by Angelo Adamo Design.

The Goler Family Enrichment Center and Truliant Federal Credit Union has teamed up to provide a series of business and financial workshops that are free to anyone who wishes to attend.  A wide range of financial-related topics will be offered on March 15, 22, and 29; April 5 and 24.  To receive a complete schedule, to register, or for more information, email Marjorie.rorie@truliantfcu.org or call 724-9411.  All workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at  the Goler Family Enrichment Center, 630 N. JOHN S. CLARK COMPANY, LLC announced the formation of the Building Improvement Division, formerly known as Special Projects.  The new division, led by Bill Sinclair, will be located at 11 Brookstown Avenue.  It will specialize in tenant upfits, renovations and additions across the Triad.

THE FORSYTH COUNTY REGISTER OF DEEDS is now open at its new location on the second floor of the Forsyth County Government Center.

PIEDMONT FEDERAL SAVINGS BANK is the new company name for the 104-year old banking institution in downtown formerly known as Piedmont Federal Savings & Loan.  The change was made to better represent the full range of products and services offered, which are similar to those offered by banks.  Using “Savings Bank” defines Piedmont’s core business.   

CHRISTOPHER’S GLOBAL CUISINE has shortened its name to simply Christopher’s.  Owner and chef, Chris Fulk, has revamped the menu, pricing, and even some of the interior at the dinner restaurant located at 712 Brookstown Avenue in the Victorian house that was once home to the Rainbow News and Café.  One new feature will be a player piano hooked up to an iPod that can download thousands of songs.

J.S. WALKER & CO. is moving to 300 South Liberty Street, Suite 200,  in the historic Railroad Building.  It will relocate from 1020 Brookstown Avenue into 3383 square feet in the new offices.  J. S. Walker & Co. is an information technology firm specializing in providing custom .NET software solutions.

JIMMY JOHN’S GOURMET SANDWICH SHOP will open at 227 West Fourth Street following extensive upfitting.  The restaurant chain was founded in 1983 and has grown to nearly 500 stores nationwide.  It is known for its speed of service in providing gourmet subs and club sandwiches.  Jimmy John’s recently signed an agreement with Rusty Wallace Racing to serve as primary sponsor of the team’s No. 66 NASCAR Nationwide series entry in ten 2008 Nationwide Series events.

SILKROAD SALON AND SPA IS OPEN  for business in the Embassy Suites in Downtown Winston-Salem.  They offer a wide array of services and their hours are 8:00 am- 10:00 pm daily.  Check out their website for information and weekly specials.

THE DOWNTOWN PLAN is now available for download at the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership website.  The plan sets out short term goals for the next two years; medium term goals for the next five years; and long-term goals for the next ten years.  The plan calls for concentrating on making the Fourth Street and Trade/Liberty Street corridors – the Core District – into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly, urban environment.  To download the Downtown Plan, just visit www.dwsp.org and click on “Downtown Info”.
