ZIGGY’S TAVERN
will be leaving Baity Street and relocating to
the old Woolworth building on Liberty Street by
next fall. Ziggy’s has been a popular
destination for live music lovers for over 30
years and under the present ownership since
1991. The announcement follows one made
previously that another club, called Bazaar,
will open in the upper level of the Downtown
Deli at 209 W. Fourth Street this fall, thus
adding two more entertainment venues downtown.
FIESTA 2007
will be held on Saturday, September 29, from
noon until 8 p.m. along Fourth Street between
Poplar and Marshall Streets. The event, which
focuses on Hispanic culture, food, and music,
has been one of downtown’s most successful
celebrations for a number of years. Mark the

OKTOBERFEST 2007 will be held
Saturday, September 29, starting at 6:00 p.m. at
the Millennium Center on Fifth Street. The
festival presented by The Triad German Club will
feature live music and German style food and

836 OAK, formerly
known as Tobacco Square, is under construction.
Interior work on the fourth and fifth floors is
underway, and will progress to the lower floors.
Windows on the historic building have been
replaced, and inside finishes are to start in
the next 60 days. Upgrades such as stainless
appliances, washers and dryers, granite counter
tops, wood floors and ceramic tile are standard
at 836 Oak. New exterior building canopies and
new carports will be completed this fall. The
developer refers to the project as being a
suburban concept in an urban area with trees,
grass, landscaping and lots of parking in a

SUBWAY
is coming to 616 West Fourth Street. A lease
for 1500 s.f. has been signed which will allow
for 30-40 seats in the restaurant, which will be
a second location for franchise owners who
currently operate a Subway store at 8 West Third
Street. Look for an early 2008 opening with
operating hours Monday through Saturday from 10
a.m. to 8 p.m.
GOLER
MANOR
Independent Living Center is completing
construction on the 79 unit apartment community
designed for seniors, age 62 and over. Tenants
will begin moving into the new facility
at Sixth and Chestnuts Streets by the end of the
month.
IMAGINE FLOWERS
is expanding after only 8 months at 560 North
Trade Street. An additional 600 s.f. will allow
for the installation of a walk-in cooler for
flowers, as well as more office and storage
space. A cooler will also be placed at the
front of the shop to allow for the sale of
arrangements and cut flowers to go. Call

THE DOWNTOWN ARTS DISTRICT ASSOCIATION
will wrap up its latest order of personalized
brick pavers following the September 7th
gallery hop. Honor a friend, mark a
special occasion or share inspirational words
with the world by purchasing a single or double

sidewalk in the arts district. This is a great
way to support the work of DADA and leave a

KINGZ DOWNTOWN MARKET
located at 418 Liberty Street between Fourth and
Fifth streets is still on track to open by the
end of the month. Owner Keith King has been
soliciting input from potential shoppers and
will carry a small inventory of fresh produce,
meats, deli items, as well as staples.
DOWNTOWN 101 will be held
this month on Tuesday, September 25. The
free, 3-hour seminar is for anyone interested in
starting a business downtown or simply wanting
to know more about the downtown market. To

THE OLD SALEM CAR RALLY will take
place on Saturday, September 22.
Registered vehicles will depart Old Salem at
10:00 a.m. for a rally that will take them in a
loop through the mountains and return back to
Old Salem for the awards ceremony at 3:00 p.m.
Mayor Allen Joines will be leading off the rally
and the public is welcome to see the rally
participants off that morning. Tours of
Old Salem
will be available that day. This event is
part of the Concours de Graylyn weekend
festivities.

collect data regarding the current state of
parking from a Downtown patron's prospective.
